Liverpool supporters were left unimpressed after **Mohamed Salah’s reaction to being substituted early in the clash against **Nottingham Forest.
On Sunday, **Liverpool made the trip to the City Ground to face one of **Arne Slot’s toughest domestic rivals. With **Chelsea and **Aston Villa both dropping points earlier in the weekend, the fixture offered Liverpool a prime chance to boost their push for Champions League qualification.
The Reds thought they had snatched a late winner when a scrappy effort deflected in off **Alexis Mac Allister, but the goal was ruled out for handball. Minutes later, the Argentine midfielder made amends by scoring the decisive goal himself.
However, it wasn’t the dramatic finish that dominated discussion online. Instead, fans turned their attention to Salah’s body language after he was withdrawn, expressing frustration over his visible displeasure and laughter on the bench.
Salah’s relationship with Slot has reportedly been strained since the start of the 2025/26 campaign. Before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations, he publicly criticised the manager after being benched for three consecutive games due to a dip in form. Although Slot has since restored him to the starting XI, Salah has struggled to rediscover his best level.
With the match still goalless, Slot opted to replace Salah, prompting the forward to shake his head as he walked off and later appear to laugh while seated beside **Cody Gakpo.
The reaction sparked anger among supporters, with one fan questioning: “Why is Salah laughing on the bench? Does he think he played well?” Another wrote: “He was awful all game, yet he’s sitting there laughing like it’s a joke.” A third added: “Doing nothing all match, giving up on plays, and still smiling — that’s what annoys fans the most.”
