Former Tennis star shares bold stance on Jannik Sinner’s comeback as his return from doping ban looms

Serena Williams’s former coach, Rick Macci, has lauded tennis sensation Jannik Sinner’s mentality as the world number one has marked his comeback in the official practice courts. Notably, the world number one is gearing up to return to the court after serving his three-month doping ban.

Macci is a famous coach in the tennis fraternity. The 70-year-old legend played a crucial role in guiding Serena Williams, her sister, Maria Sharapova, and Andy Roddick to take their game to the pinnacle of the level. The former American star stated that Sinner showcased a great character during his doping period.

What is the first tournament Sinner will be playing after his ban?

Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner was spotted earlier with British star and Indian Wells 2025 champion Jack Draper in the official practice courts. His practice session highlights his aim to perform well in the clay courts. He will make his first appearance at the Rome Masters in Italy, set to take place on May 7, 2025.

“What we see with Sinner is a locked in high Peak mental game with very few Valleys. What we see with his Italian Flames off the ground are incredible acute quality angles skidding toward the Alleys. Number one has just begun. @janniksin,” he wrote.

On the other hand, Serena Williams was seen making disparate comments on Jannik Sinner’s ban. The top WTA star hailed Sinner’s game plan and pragmatic approach towards the game. However, the former world number one stated that she would have been banned for at least 20 years if she were spotted indulging herself in a doping ban. The American stalwart’s comment did not sit well with the fans, having mixed reactions from the tennis fraternity to her stance on world number one.

“I love the guy, I love this game. He’s great for the sport. If I did that, I would have gotten 20 years. Let’s be honest. I would have gotten Grand Slams taken away from me,” Serena Williams said.
