Prior to this match, the Italian had emerged victorious over Djokovic in both the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup, creating the conditions for a demanding confrontation. Sinner advanced to the semifinal with a flawless record, having not lost a single set during the competition. Although Sinner had previously held a 2-0 advantage over Djokovic at Wimbledon but ultimately lost the match, this time, the Italian sustained his superiority. Djokovic encountered a break point in the first stages of the third set. However, following a temporary pause due to a fan requiring medical care, he composed himself and managed to bring about a tie-break. Eventually, he emerged victorious in the tie-break with a score of 8-6, so prolonging the match into a fourth set.

Notwithstanding Djokovic’s determination, Sinner persistently exerted pressure, causing the Serbian to lose his serve and allowing Sinner to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth set. The Italian’s outstanding performance ultimately ensured a momentous win, as he prevailed with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3, securing a place in his first-ever Grand Slam final.
