Liverpool is poised to learn its UEFA Champions League round of 16 opponent later this week. The draw is scheduled for Friday, February 27, at 11:00 AM UK time (12:00 CET) in Nyon, Switzerland, shortly after the knockout play-off second legs wrap up on Wednesday, February 25.
The play-off matches determining the remaining spots include:
Atletico Madrid vs. Club Brugge
Juventus vs. Galatasaray
The winner of one of these ties will face Liverpool, while the winner of the other will take on Tottenham Hotspur. Both English clubs secured direct advancement to the round of 16 by finishing in the top four of the league phase.
Other play-off fixtures are:
Bayer Leverkusen vs. Olympiacos
Inter Milan vs. Bodo/Glimt
Newcastle United vs. Qarabag
Atalanta vs. Borussia Dortmund
PSG vs. AS Monaco
Real Madrid vs. Benfica
This single draw will also outline the potential paths for the quarter-finals and semi-finals, allowing Liverpool to see its possible route all the way to the final in Budapest, Hungary—an extra incentive for players like Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez.
For Liverpool’s tie, the first leg will be away on March 10 or 11, with the return leg at Anfield on March 17 or 18.
Former Liverpool winger Bolo Zenden recently shared his thoughts with The Redmen TV, noting that teams like Bayern Munich and Arsenal appear strong at the moment. However, he emphasized that favorites don’t always triumph in this competition. He pointed to last season’s surprise when PSG advanced late and went on to win convincingly, underscoring that anything is possible—though the road won’t be easy, and the draw will play a big role.
Beyond progressing far this season, Liverpool must also secure qualification for next year’s Champions League. Currently, the Reds sit sixth in the Premier League table, level on points with Chelsea but behind on goal difference.
