Carlos Alcaraz reveals why Jannik Sinner deserves to be ATP No.1

The umpteenth demonstration of the respect that exists between these two great talents of modern tennis, the one paid by Carlos Alcaraz to his young rival Jannik Sinner. With each passing day, the diatribe on the best tennis player of the moment is fueled more and more. On one side the fans, who debate animatedly on who is the strongest, on the other two great and very humble champions, opponents only on the court and with great respect for each other.

 

Alcaraz himself expressed his opinion on who is the best tennis player of the year, giving an interview to the X account of the Murcian newspaper ORM Deportes. The Wimbledon winner praised his rival in this way, with a certificate of great esteem towards his Italian friend.

 

“Sinner is the most consistent player. He has won a Grand Slam and has reached, except in this tournament, the semifinals in all the tournaments he has played. He deserves to still be ATP No.1. I have won big tournaments, let’s hope he continues like this and we will see at the end of the year who is higher,” he said.

After the overwhelming triumph at Wimbledon in the final against Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz has dramatically increased his odds. The 21-year-old Spaniard, who won his fourth career Slam title on the grass of the All England Club, confirming himself as champion after last year’s English success, is going through a magical moment.

Carlitos has in fact managed the feat of winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year, joining a select club of champions capable of achieving this double. Despite these extraordinary results, the tennis player from Murcia remains in third place in the ATP rankings, behind Novak Djokovic and number 1 Sinner. The Italian is having his best year on the circuit thanks to the four titles won, including the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami and the ATP 500 in Rotterdam and Halle.
