Ukraine’s tennis star, Elina Svitolina, has revealed that she has decided to end her association with her coach, Raemon Sluiter. The 29-year-old is going through a decent campaign, producing some good results but faltering on other occasions.
Svitolina was recently quoted in a report stating that she is ending her association with her coach. The news is a surprising one considering that she had a relatively successful time while working with Sluiter, especially when she returned to the court following her pregnancy in 2023 and played in the semifinal and quarterfinal of Grand Slams. “I just wanted to let you know that Raemon Sluiter and I have decided to end our working relationship,” she said. “We have had a great run, and Ray has helped me become a better player.”
Svitolina’s most recent appearance came at Wimbledon 2024, where she was eventually knocked out after losing to Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2. In other Grand Slams this year, Svitolina has produced similar performances. At the Australian Open, she was knocked out and forced to retire from the fourth-round clash against Linda Noskova.

In the second Grand Slam of the year, the French Open, Svitolina faltered in the fourth round as she lost to Rybakina in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3. The Odesa-born star’s performance this year came in the ASB Classic in January just before the Australian Open, where she finished as the runner-up after losing to America’s young tennis sensation Coco Gauff in the final with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. It will be interesting to see how Svitolina will perform in the remainder of the season and whether she will be able to show similar kind of performances in the later stages of the season like she did last year.
