Jannik Sinner’s girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya recently clarified to her fans that she isn’t fluent in Italian despite her relationship with the Italian tennis player. She used a meme involving Brad Pitt to humorously convey the message.
Sinner made his relationship with Russian tennis player Kalinskaya public in May this year. While the couple shy away from disclosing any personal details, the World No. 1 confirmed their status during his press conference at the French Open.
“I’m with Anna [Kalinskaya], yes, but we keep everything very confidential, you know my confidentiality… I won’t say more,” Sinner said (via Italian news agency ANSA).
Anna Kalinskaya has since gained a large number of Italian supporters. Several tennis fans also recently teased the 25-year-old for supposedly adopting her boyfriend’s mannerism when she was captured doing a famously “Italian” hand gesture during her US Open 2024 match. The image went viral on X, garnering over 600,000 views.
However, when it came to speaking the language, Kalinskaya clarified that she is unversed. The World No. 15 shared a hilarious clip from Brad Pitt’s 2009 film “Inglourious Basterds,” where the actor could muster just a couple of basic Italian words.
“Me in (Italy) and I know only 2 words: Italians who think I speak Italian,” the meme’s caption read.
Anna Kalinskaya reacted by adding a laughing emoji and an Italian flag.

Anna Kalinskaya is enjoying her career’s best season yet and is presently placed at a career-high ranking of World No. 15. While she has yet to win a title on the main tour, she reached her first two finals this year, at the WTA 1000 in Dubai and the WTA 500 in Berlin.
Kalinskaya, who had never advanced beyond the second round of Grand Slams before 2024, reached her maiden quarterfinal at the Australian Open. She also reached the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships, retiring mid-match due to injury.
At the ongoing US Open, the Russian managed a third-round appearance, bowing out against Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-3, 6-1. Despite the loss, though, she has extended her stay in New York to support Jannik Sinner.
On Wednesday, September 4, Kalinskaya was spotted cheering on the World No. 1 during his quarterfinal victory against arch-rival Daniil Medvedev (6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4). She is thus likely to attend Sinner’s semifinal match against Jack Draper, too.
Jannik Sinner is chasing his sixth title of the season and second Grand Slam at the US Open, following his glory at the Australian Open earlier this year.
