Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been criticised by former Anderlecht and Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck, who accused him of failing to provide enough defensive cover for left-back Milos Kerkez.
Vanhaezebrouck believes Van Dijk avoids taking risks that could make him look foolish, leaving Kerkez exposed defensively.
Liverpool have suffered three defeats this season, against Manchester City, Arsenal and Fenerbahce. Although their recent performances have shown improvement, defensive weaknesses remain a concern.
Speaking ahead of Club Bruggeโs Champions League meeting with Liverpool on November 25, Vanhaezebrouck suggested the Belgian side could exploit those weaknesses.
He also warned Club Brugge against conceding first, explaining that Liverpoolโs high defensive line could create opportunities, but the Reds become much harder to break down once they take the lead.
