In a commanding display of power and precision, Aryna Sabalenka stormed into the semifinals of the 2024 US Open, defeating Zheng Qinwen with a resounding 6-1, 6-2 victory. The match, held at Arthur Ashe Stadium, showcased Sabalenka’s dominance as she overwhelmed her opponent from the very first game.

Sabalenka, the second seed, wasted no time in asserting her authority on the court. From the outset, she dictated the pace with her aggressive baseline play, leaving Zheng struggling to find any rhythm. The Belarusian’s powerful groundstrokes and booming serves proved too much for the Chinese rising star, who could not counter Sabalenka’s relentless attacks.

The first set was a one-sided affair, with Sabalenka breaking Zheng’s serve twice to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Zheng managed to hold serve in the sixth game, but it was a brief respite as Sabalenka closed out the set 6-1 in just 27 minutes.

The second set followed a similar script. Sabalenka continued to dominate, breaking Zheng early and consolidating her lead with ease. Despite Zheng’s efforts to mount a comeback, Sabalenka’s consistent shot-making and powerful returns kept her firmly in control. Zheng, who has been one of the standout performers in this year’s tournament, was simply outclassed by Sabalenka’s superior firepower and experience.

Sabalenka sealed the match with a blistering forehand winner, marking her third consecutive US Open semifinal appearance. With this victory, she remains on course for her first Grand Slam title of the year. The 2024 season has been remarkable for Sabalenka, and her performance today further solidifies her status as one of the top contenders for the US Open crown.

As she advances to the semifinals, all eyes will be on Sabalenka as she continues her quest for her first US Open title.
