Read Madrid. That’s Alex De Minaur’s favorite team because his mom has been a longtime fan, and so he never misses the chance of watching a soccer game after fulfilling his ATP Tour commitments. You see, his milestone 50th tour-level QF ended in disappointment as he fell 7-5, 6-3 to defending champion Carlos Alcaraz at the Barcelona Open. The Australian started strong, breaking the top seed early to lead 3-1 and then again in the seventh game, but Alcaraz stormed back, winning four of the last five games to seal the first set and eventually the match in just 100 minutes. Now back home, it appears De Minaur’s attention has drifted back to soccer.
A new update from his partner, Katie Boulter, showed a rarely seen side of the Tennis player. In the video, Boulter’s expression said it all, subtle but unmistakably disappointed, as she panned the camera to Alex de Minaur, who appeared fully engrossed in a Premier League match!
While the Aussie star caught up with the football/soccer action, Boulter wrote a pointed caption, “Watching football on our first night back together. Loveeee us time 🙄 >>>>>>>>🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩,” hinting at a tinge of frustration or playful jealousy. But hey, this isn’t the first time Katie Boulter has shared a cheeky yet cryptic glimpse into her relationship with Alex de Minaur.
Just last month, following their return from the Sunshine Double, the Brit posted a playful IG story as De Minaur opted to unwind with a round of golf. Capturing him with his golf kit, she jokingly wrote, “First day home in months, priorities will always be the same.” It was accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek Yes/No poll that read, “Small argument occurring, so I obviously came to Instagram to consolidate that I’m right. Is it reasonable to keep your partner’s golf clubs in the shed?” Fans couldn’t help but chuckle at the relatable banter. But did you know that golf is his other favorite sport?
Earlier this year, he described himself as an “Instagram golfer” and couldn’t help but point out how important it was for his mental health. “I love it. It’s a way for me to disconnect, to relax, to enjoy the fresh air, the greenery and switch off.” Similarly, golf helped Nadal boost his preparation before the 2010 U.S. Open, which ended in his win.
Now, as De Minaur tunes into a Premier League match instead of paying attention to her, Katie Boulter has shared a funny side of their relationship. And it doesn’t look like she is about to stop anytime soon. After all, she also poked fun at De Minaur’s fashion choice in Monte Carlo as well.
When Katie Boulter playfully poked fun at beau Alex de Minaur over his fashion choice in Monte Carlo!
“Stop trying to thirst trap. You have a fiancée,” Katie Boulter jokingly commented on one of Alex De Minaur’s photos during the AO in January. And that classic Boulter wit struck again as the Aussie stormed through the recently concluded Monte Carlo with his most commanding performance of the season. De Minaur stunned the World No. 9 Daniil Medvedev with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, breaking the Russian as many as seven times.
But while De Minaur’s tennis did all the talking, Boulter once again stole the spotlight with her humor. After De Minaur posted a fiery fist-pump photo captioned “Step by step 🧱👀 QF 🔜 @rolexmontecarlomasters,” earlier this month, Boulter playfully chimed in, writing, “Not sure the short shorts are a win tho,” sparking laughter and love from fans who adore their lighthearted dynamic.
Boulter, in the meantime, has earned a spot in the Madrid Open and secured main draw entry into Roland Garros for just the second time in her career, thanks to her current ranking. Though clay hasn’t always been her favorite surface, the Brit is determined to turn the tide, starting with her opening match against Kateřina Siniaková.
After a stop-start season plagued by injuries and limited to just three tournaments so far in 2025, this could be a turning point for Boulter. Can the British No. 1 channel her fighting spirit and make a statement in Madrid? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
