Maria Sharapova recently stressed the importance of freezing eggs for women, specifically for female athletes. In addition to her advocacy, she is also actively investing in “Cofertility”, a program helping women to freeze their eggs.

In an interview with Vogue, the five-time Grand Slam champion highlighted that freezing eggs allows female athletes to extend their careers and said it is a thoughtful personal choice.

“Women’s sport is having an incredible moment,” she said. “The emphasis on the athletes and their achievements and how inspiring they are is incredible.”

“If they can prolong their career on their own terms by freezing their eggs at a younger age, they’ll perhaps have the time to compete at the highest level for longer, have the time to decide on their partner, and not rush into a relationship for whatever reason.”

The former World No. 1 gave birth to Theodore at the age of 35.
