Scottie Scheffler became the PGA Championship winner for the first time, winning his third major championship at Quail Hollow. The American was five strokes ahead of countrymen Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley, who tied for second.
Frustrations boiled over on a tough weekend for many of golf’s biggest names. Rory McIlroy was way behind the leading pack and finished the tournament three over par. Jon Rahm had initially tied with Scheffler on the back nine, only to make a series of errors and end seven shots behind the leader. Things also got too much for Wyndham Clark, who smashed his club out of frustration.

Bryson DeChambeau’s message
Bryson DeChambeau shared a simple message with Scottie Scheffler after his rival won the PGA Championship.
Scheffler won by five strokes to claim his first PGA Championship title and his third major.
DeChambeau, who also challenged at the top of the leaderboard, was overheard telling his fellow American: “Great job, proud of you.”
Rory McIlroy to pay £15k
Rory McIlroy will pay over £15,000 in taxes after his PGA Championship performance.
The Northern Irishman underwhelmed at Quail Hollow, a venue in which he has historically enjoyed success.
McIlroy came tied for 47th but still earned £36,805.09.
As a US resident, he will not pay tax in the UK. However, a top rate of tax of 37 per cent across the Atlantic means he will owe £13,610.28.
North Carolina also has a flat 4.5 per cent rate of state tax. McIlroy will pay £1,656.14 ($2,213.55) towards this.

PGA Championship leader fled tournament
Harris English fled the PGA Championship despite leading at the time of his departure.
He eventually finished tied for second but was six under par and ahead of the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm.
He returned to the clubhouse and informed journalists that he was flying home at 5pm, despite him in contention.
“I’ve got a flight I’m catching at five,” he said shortly after concluding his round. “Two guys will probably not be very happy with me if I didn’t show up.”

Volunteer ‘scared to death’ by Wyndham Clark
An individual claiming to be the course marshal who was positioned behind Wyndham Clark has said they were ‘scared to death’ over his outburst.
Clark launched his driver into an advertising hoarding on the 16th hole after another poor shot.
The 31-year-old endured another tough major championship and allowed his frustration to boil over.
His rage punched a hole into the hoarding and left his club head dismembered from its shaft.
However, there was also a marshall stood nearby, who Clark potentially did not see before throwing the club.
X user CMDeuilio, whose name is Chris Deiulio, wrote: “I’m the marshal holding the flag. Scared me to death.”
Rory McIlroy opted against performing any media duties after a horror showing at the PGA Championship.
The Northern Irishman’s time at Quail Hollow could not have been further from the glory he experienced at the Masters only a month ago.
McIlroy tied for 47th after just making the cut. A pair of 72s over the weekend meant he was unable to catch the leading pack, with Scottie Scheffler eventually going on to win.
Media were unable to speak to McIlroy afterwards. He did not appear in the interview and press conferences venues.
The 36-year-old did share a chat with Jon Rahm in the car park, which was pictured by broadcasters.
It means fans will have to wait for Mcilroy’s verdict on a tough weekend, in addition to reports that his driver was non-conforming with tournament standards in the build-up.
