As the Kenyan flag and culture fly high at the Paris Olympics, the daughter of Tennis legend Serena Williams has been spotted donning a Kenyan bracelet.

In a video shared by Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian, the seven-year-old is seen with the beadwork, as one Kenyan comments on the same.

The family is in Paris, France for the 2024 Olympics, where the young girl, Alexis Olympia, received the bracelet alongside pins from other countries.

Reacting to the video, Winnie Njuguna asked, “Where did she get this wristband? Looks like beadwork of the Kenyan flag”.

Ohanian then replied that she had gotten it from a Kenyan player.

“From some Kenyan players! She was so excited to meet them and ask for their pin (and they gave her an even better upgrade with that bracelet!),” the father said.

As the pin trading tradition took effect in the summer games, Kenyan players were giving out bracelet as opposed to pins.

Olympic pin trading is a longstanding tradition among the athletes, fans, and staff members at the games.

Olympics are about more than just sports and who is greater than who. They are about celebrating culture.

People collect pins to keep the unforgettable memories.

Athletes trade official country pins from their competitors around the Olympic Village, along with specialised pins from sponsors, media networks, and the host cities.

Pin trading dates back to 1896 in Athens, Greece, when countries wore badges made of cardboard that were initially intended to denote the judges and Olympic officials.
