Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian lent a moment of his time to mourn late NFL legend Sean Taylor, in light of his daughter Jackie Taylor’s recent comments on how he impacted her life. Taylor is slowly becoming a well-known athlete of her own, representing the University of North Carolina (UNC) in volleyball as a middle hitter.
Jackie Taylor appeared as a guest on the Pivot Podcast, where she shared her thoughts on her father. Sean Taylor passed away in 2007, when he was shot dead by a home intruder. His wife, Jackie Garcia, and daughter Jackie, then 18 months old, were also in the house at the time but were unharmed during the ordeal.
Sean Taylor was, at the time, playing as a Safety for the Washington Redskins (now rebranded as the Washington Commanders), and was posthumously inducted into the Redskins Ring of Fame the following year. He was also posthumously voted to the Pro Bowl in 2007 (his second time), becoming the first deceased player in the history of the sport to be bestowed the honor.
His No. 21 jersey was officially retired by the Redskins in 2021. Interestingly, Jackie Taylor has chosen the same number for her volleyball stint at the UNC, as a tribute to her late father. Speaking on the podcast, Jackie, breaking down in tears, opined that had Sean Taylor lived on, he would have changed her life for the better. She also acknowledged how she works even harder to continue his legacy in the sports world.
“I tryl really hard to continue his legacy, continue my legacy…” Jackie Taylor said. “I think he would’ve been such a changemaker beyond the football field. I think he would’ve changed my perspective in life,” she added.
Ohanian shared the video on his Twitter (now X) account, adding a message of mourning.
“RIP 21,” Alexis Ohanian commented.

Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian is big fan of the Washington Commanders, and regularly attends their matches in person. His father also being a huge Commanders fan, Ohanian’s most treasured memories of childhood involve watching their games with his father in tow.
Earlier this year, when the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl, Alexis Ohanian jokingly lamented how he has been waiting for his favorite team to win the title for more than 30 years. The Commanders’ third and last Super Bowl title came in 1991.
Meanwhile, Serena Williams is a minority owner of the Miami Dolphins since 2009, along with her sister Venus Williams.
