UEFA Champions League draw delivers a never-before-seen fixture anomaly in competition history

The UEFA Champions League knockout stage draw occurred in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday, February 27, 2026. This draw determined the round of 16 matchups for all six Premier League clubs still in contention: Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur.

This setup guarantees historic moments in the last 16, as the English teams discovered their paths forward.

Thanks to topping the 36-team league phase, Arsenal and Bayern Munich secure home advantage in the second leg of their ties through to the final (set for May 30 in Budapest, Hungary). Arsenal appear to have received one of the kinder draws.

Arsenal will take on Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16, with a potential quarter-final against the winner of Bodo/Glimt or Sporting CP. Their possible semi-final foes include Newcastle, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, or rivals Tottenham.

Six-time winners Liverpool are drawn against Galatasaray in the last 16, potentially facing PSG or Chelsea in the quarters. In the semis, they could meet Real Madrid, Manchester City, Atalanta, or Bayern Munich.

Newcastle United face Barcelona in the round of 16, with a possible quarter-final clash against Atletico Madrid or Tottenham. Their potential semi-final opponents are Bodo/Glimt, Sporting CP, Bayer Leverkusen, or Arsenal.

Chelsea meet reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16, followed by a potential quarter-final with Galatasaray or Liverpool. Semi-final possibilities include Real Madrid, Manchester City, Atalanta, or Bayern Munich.

Tottenham Hotspur were paired with Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 and could encounter Newcastle or Barcelona in the quarters, before a semi-final against Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Bodo/Glimt, or Sporting CP.

Manchester City draw Real Madrid in the round of 16, setting up a quarter-final against Atalanta or Bayern Munich. In the semis, Pep Guardiola’s team could face PSG, Chelsea, Galatasaray, or Liverpool.

This matchup marks the first time City and Real Madrid will contest a knockout tie in five straight seasons. Including group/league phase encounters, the two sides will have met 11 times over the past five years by the end of this round of 16 in 2025/26.

Remarkably, Manchester City have played only five other teams (Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham) more frequently than Real Madrid in that span, despite the clubs competing in separate domestic leagues.

“It’s funny that every season we play [City], it’s five seasons in a row, we know each other well,” commented Real Madrid’s director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueño, after the draw. “They have not just a great team but a great squad, and that gives Guardiola options. The first game will be at the Bernabeu … These are games for attacking football, both teams go for it, there are lots of goals. It’s one of the best games you can see anywhere in the world. We hope all our players are fit for the tie, we’ll need them. We all know how much this competition means to us, and we believe in our players.”

Champions League 2025-26 Last 16, Quarter-Final and Semi-Final Draw in Full. The much-anticipated draw for the Champions League knockout stages has now been made, with plenty to look forward to in the latter rounds of Europe’s premier club competition. The top eight teams from the initial league phase – Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Tottenham, Barcelona, Chelsea, Sporting and Manchester City – all qualified automatically for the next round and earned a break through February.Teams finishing between ninth and 24th were required to contest an additional two-legged playoff to secure a place in the Round of 16. Those ties produced plenty of drama, not least Norwegian outsiders Bodo/Glimt, who continued their giant-killing run with a shock 5-2 aggregate victory over last seasons finalists Inter Milan.Newcastle also delivered one of the biggest aggregate scorelines in Champions League history, thrashing Qarabag 9-3 to ensure all six English clubs remain in the showpiece tournament. • Liverpool prospect edging closer to exit despite being offered a new deal, with permanent transfer imminent

Liverpool prospect edging closer to exit despite being offered a new deal, with permanent transfer imminent

Liverpool have reportedly presented Trent Kone-Doherty with a new contract offer, but the 19-year-old Irish winger is nearing a permanent transfer to Norwegian club Molde FK, where he could secure regular first-team minutes.

The latest insight comes from Liverpool academy reporter Lewis Bower on X, who states that while fresh terms have been tabled by the Reds, a move to Molde appears close.

“Exc: Trent Kone-Doherty has been offered a new deal at Liverpool however he has the opportunity to go to Molde FK to be part of the first-team on a permanent deal. As things stand a move is close.”

This presents an intriguing dilemma for the talented attacker, whom Liverpool signed from Derry City in July 2022. The right-footed wide player has long been regarded as one of the academy’s standout prospects, known for his blistering pace, dribbling ability in one-on-one situations, and ability to deliver quality end product.

Versatile across the front line, Kone-Doherty has been a consistent performer in Premier League 2 this season, frequently creating high-quality chances for his teammates (as highlighted by Sofascore data). His creativity has shone in bigger moments too, including impactful displays for Ireland’s U21 side, where he expressed a clear desire for more playing time: “I want to show the manager anytime I get the chance to get minutes, I want to show him that I want to be playing.”

He has already tasted senior action, making his Liverpool debut as a substitute in the FA Cup against Plymouth Argyle in February 2025.

The critical aspect of the Molde interest lies in the promise of immediate first-team involvement on a permanent basis—something Arne Slot’s setup may not guarantee right away amid the club’s senior priorities. For a young player eager to accelerate his growth against seasoned pros rather than staying in the academy setup, this could prove decisive.

Liverpool’s new contract proposal, meanwhile, underscores their continued long-term faith in Kone-Doherty, even if his immediate future might lie elsewhere to gain valuable experience.

As the club turns attention to upcoming fixtures like the clash with West Ham United, academy pathways often hinge on perfect timing and opportunities. The next few weeks will reveal whether Liverpool retain this highly-rated teenager for the long haul or facilitate his development via a loan-like permanent step abroad.

Liverpool are keen on acquiring Real Madrid’s midfielder Eduardo Camavinga when the current season concludes.

Per various reports (via Football365), the club is ready to table a €100 million bid to secure his services. Such a substantial proposal would be tough for Real Madrid to turn down.

The sources indicate that Liverpool aim to refresh their midfield options by adding players who bring energy, high pressing, and strong technical skills.

As a French international, Camavinga stands out as a strong fit for their needs. His flexibility allows him to excel in central midfield, a deeper defensive role, or even at the back, making him highly appealing to the Premier League side.

Bringing him in could free up Ryan Gravenberch to play in a more advanced central midfield position, where the Dutch star performs best—rather than being deployed primarily as a defensive midfielder.

It will be intriguing to watch whether Liverpool submit a formal bid in the coming months. Strengthening the squad is essential if they hope to compete for major honors, and landing this Real Madrid talent could be a perfect move. Camavinga has consistently demonstrated his class in La Liga and on the international stage, with the physical presence and skill set well-suited to the demands of English football. Should the deal materialize, he is expected to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid face the need to bolster several areas of their squad this summer, so rejecting a €100 million offer for the young Frenchman would be a challenging decision. The coming weeks will reveal how this potential transfer saga unfolds.

  • Jurgen Klopp Might End Red Bull Role Early and Stage Dramatic Liverpool Comeback

Jurgen Klopp Might End Red Bull Role Early and Stage Dramatic Liverpool Comeback

Reports suggest that Jürgen Klopp’s position as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer may be at risk, potentially paving the way for a dramatic comeback to Liverpool.

Klopp, who led Liverpool for almost nine years, revealed in early 2024 that he would step down as manager at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season. The German coach cited feeling exhausted and “running out of energy,” while firmly stating that he would not take charge of any other English club besides Liverpool in the future.

After leaving Anfield, Klopp joined Red Bull in January 2025 as Head of Global Soccer, a role that positions him as the top sporting director overseeing the company’s entire football network, including clubs like RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bulls, Paris FC, and Leeds United.

However, recent developments indicate challenges in his tenure. Performances at several Red Bull-affiliated teams have been underwhelming: Paris FC and Leeds United are fighting relegation battles, and RB Leipzig is facing difficulties in qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

According to the Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten—which previously broke the news of Klopp’s Red Bull appointment—neither Klopp nor Red Bull executives are pleased with the progress. This has sparked discussions about possibly ending his contract prematurely.

The report indicates that if Klopp expresses a desire to exit his role and return to frontline coaching next season, Red Bull would not block the move. In such a scenario, the organization reportedly views Oliver Glasner as the prime candidate to succeed him. Glasner, who previously served as sporting coordinator and assistant coach at RB Salzburg, as well as interim manager at FC Liefering, is expected to depart Crystal Palace at the end of the current campaign.

While some might dismiss these claims, the outlet’s track record lends them credibility. Should Klopp opt to resume management, fans would naturally dream of an emotional, rejuvenated return to Liverpool—especially with current manager Arne Slot facing mounting scrutiny due to the team’s recent struggles, raising the possibility of a vacancy at Anfield this summer.

That said, Klopp has repeatedly downplayed immediate comeback prospects when questioned, though he hasn’t entirely closed the door on a future Liverpool role. His next Anfield appearance is likely limited to a legends match against Borussia Dortmund next month. Alternatively, speculation persists about him potentially succeeding Julian Nagelsmann as Germany national team coach after the upcoming World Cup.

“I came here to win the Premier League, but my agent has just shown me proof that certain promises made during my signing are not being kept… I cannot stay at a club that isn’t being honest about its financial future.”

iLiverpool have been thrown into fresh uncertainty following sensational reports that Florian Wirtz has raised serious legal concerns regarding the terms of his contract. The German international is said to have questioned whether certain assurances made during his signing have been upheld, triggering alarm within the club’s hierarchy.According to sources close to the situation, Wirtz was left stunned after his representatives allegedly presented documentation suggesting that specific financial or structural promises linked to the club’s future ambitions may not have materialized as expected.“I came here to win the Premier League, but my agent has just shown me proof that certain promises made during my signing are not being kept,” Wirtz reportedly stated. “I love the fans, but I cannot stay at a club that isn’t being honest about its financial future.”The reported remarks have sent shockwaves through Anfield, with supporters expressing concern over what this could mean for the club’s stability and long-term project. While the precise nature of the alleged clause remains undisclosed, speculation is mounting that it could involve performance-related guarantees, investment commitments, or structural assurances tied to competitiveness.Club officials have so far declined to comment publicly on the matter, but insiders suggest urgent internal discussions are underway to assess the legal and reputational implications of the claim. If the dispute escalates, it could open the door to a high-profile contractual battle — one that may impact Liverpool’s transfer strategy and dressing-room morale at a crucial stage of the campaign. For now, the football world watches closely as questions linger over the so-called “hidden clause” and whether it could threaten to destabilize one of England’s most historic institutions.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Steven Gerrard Demands Immediate Ban Amid Liverpool F.C. Training-Ground Controversy
A major controversy has erupted at Liverpool following reports of a shocking incident involving a high-profile first-team star during a recent training session. While details surrounding the alleged altercation remain limited, sources indicate that the situation has caused significant unrest within the squad and coaching staff.
Club legend Steven Gerrard has now publicly addressed the matter — and his response has intensified the debate. Speaking firmly, Gerrard made it clear that he believes decisive action is required to protect the club’s standards and identity.
“He should be banned from the squad immediately,” Gerrard stated. “This is not the Liverpool way — we don’t do things like this. It’s completely unacceptable for someone of his status. He must be punished, instantly.”
The former captain’s comments have sent shockwaves through Anfield, with supporters divided over the severity of the suggested punishment. Some fans have praised Gerrard’s unwavering stance on discipline and club culture, while others are urging patience until the full facts emerge.
The incident reportedly occurred behind closed doors at the club’s training complex, but insiders suggest tensions have been building in recent weeks. Liverpool’s management has yet to release an official statement clarifying the circumstances or outlining potential disciplinary measures.
With the season entering a critical stage, any internal disruption could have significant consequences for team morale and performance. The spotlight is now firmly on the club’s hierarchy as they determine the next course of action.
For now, the football world awaits further clarification — but one thing is certain: Gerrard’s strong words have ensured this controversy will not fade quietly.

  • DONE DEAL! Liverpool just DROPPED THE BOMB! A $71M Juventus monster is on his way to Anfield to team up with Alonso’s golden boy – The Premier League is NOT ready for this DUO!

DONE DEAL! Liverpool just DROPPED THE BOMB! A $71M Juventus monster is on his way to Anfield to team up with Alonso’s golden boy – The Premier League is NOT ready for this DUO!

In a move that’s set to send shockwaves through the football world, Liverpool have pulled off a masterstroke in the transfer market. As of February 25, 2026, the Reds have officially secured the signature of Juventus star Andrea Cambiaso for a staggering $71 million (£52 million). The 26-year-old Italian full-back, known for his ferocious tackling, blistering pace, and versatility across the backline and midfield, is heading to Anfield to bolster Arne Slot’s squad. But that’s not all – Cambiaso will be linking up with none other than Edmond Tapsoba, the Burkinabé powerhouse from Bayer Leverkusen, who’s also on the verge of completing his own $71 million switch to Merseyside. This dynamic duo, forged in the fires of elite European football, is about to unleash hell on the Premier League!

Let’s break it down: Cambiaso, the “Juventus monster,” has been a standout performer in Serie A, earning rave reviews for his ability to dominate both flanks. Standing at 6’0″ with the build of a gladiator, he’s not just a defender – he’s a weapon. Capable of playing right-back, left-back, or even pushing into midfield, Cambiaso brings the kind of tactical flexibility that Slot craves. His stats from the 2025/26 season speak volumes: 8 assists, 4 goals, and a tackle success rate north of 75%. Juventus, despite tying him down until 2029, couldn’t resist Liverpool’s aggressive bid, especially with the player’s desire to test himself in the Premier League. Caught Offside had been hinting at this for weeks, and now it’s official – the deal is done, papers signed, medical passed. Cambiaso is Anfield-bound!

Now, enter Edmond Tapsoba, the man affectionately dubbed “Alonso’s golden boy.” The 27-year-old center-back was a cornerstone of Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten Bundesliga-winning Leverkusen side back in 2024, where his composure on the ball, aerial dominance, and leadership qualities shone brightly. Valued at the same eye-watering $71 million, Tapsoba has racked up over 250 appearances for Die Werkself, becoming a fan favorite and a target for Europe’s elite. With Leverkusen under new boss Kasper Hjulmand (who took over after Erik ten Hag’s sacking in September 2025), the club is reportedly open to cashing in to fund their own rebuild. Fussball Daten broke the story of interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, PSG, and Real Madrid, but it’s the Reds who’ve won the race. Tapsoba’s arrival addresses Liverpool’s need for depth at center-back, especially with young talent like Jeremy Jacquet still developing.

Imagine this duo in action: Cambiaso’s marauding runs from the full-back position feeding into Tapsoba’s rock-solid defensive core. Under Slot’s high-pressing system, they’ll form an impenetrable wall while launching counter-attacks that could tear apart any opponent. Remember, Tapsoba’s history with Alonso – now a legendary figure in Liverpool lore – adds a poetic touch. Alonso’s influence lingers, and pairing his protégé with a beast like Cambiaso? It’s a match made in football heaven. The Premier League defenses won’t know what hit them. Arsenal’s backline? Shaken. Manchester City’s? Stirred. This isn’t just a transfer; it’s a statement of intent from sporting director Richard Hughes.

Of course, Liverpool’s squad was already looking potent after the 2025 summer haul, including Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. But with injuries to Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong exposing vulnerabilities at right-back, and Andy Robertson’s contract ticking down amid Tottenham interest, these signings are timely. Cambiaso slots in seamlessly on the right or left, while Tapsoba partners Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konaté for a fearsome central pairing.

Fans are buzzing on social media, with #CambiasoToAnfield and #TapsobaReds trending worldwide. One supporter tweeted: “Liverpool just built a fortress! Cambiaso and Tapsoba together? We’re winning the quadruple!” Another added: “Alonso’s legacy lives on – this duo is unstoppable!”

As the summer window heats up, Liverpool aren’t done yet. But this double swoop? It’s a bomb that’s exploded the transfer landscape. The Premier League is officially on notice – Anfield is reloaded, and the competition is NOT ready for what’s coming. Stay tuned for more updates as the Reds gear up for glory!
