
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man suspected of involvement in the attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and several leaders of the All Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City, Edo State on February 24. �

According to reports, armed men opened fire shortly after a political meeting, targeting Obi, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun (a veteran politician), and other ADC members as they were leaving the party office. �

The suspect, identified as Udeme Monday Stephen, allegedly claimed responsibility in a post on his X account (@stevetom788) and threatened further violence against Obi, saying the former presidential candidate was “lucky to have survived” the incident and warning of more attacks. �

DSS operatives reportedly launched a covert investigation, using forensic analysis to trace and apprehend the suspect. The 26-year-old man, who is said to be a teacher at Jessica High School in Eliozu, was taken into custody and is expected to be charged in court. �

The attack not only heightened political tensions but also drew condemnation from political leaders, including Obi and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, who described the violence as unacceptable and warned against importation of thugs into the state for political purposes. �
